Since a coffee table isn't the best way to contain all of my electronics, I need to get/build some kind of entertainment center. I looked around for something, but nothing really fits in that space. So, I decided I was going to have to build it. I had an idea of what I wanted, but I just couldn't get it to work in my mind.
While reinstalling everything on my computer (that's another blog entry), I came across a trial version of Pro-Engineer. Oddly enough, it's the same version that I use right now at work. Anyway, here's a sample of what I think the thing will look like with my TV:

The shelf underneath the TV will hold my center speaker in the middle, my Xbox 360 on one side, and my stereo and DVD player on the other. Behind each of the 3 doors will be 2 drawers (6 total) for holding DVD's and assorted other accessories. Since my Guitar Hero controller won't fit in one of the drawers, I think I might make a cool wall display for it.
So, that's the plan. I might decide to geek out on this thing and use my drafting skills from work to draw out a detailed drawing of all of the parts to aid in the construction. I'm planning on building the thing out of 3/4" plywood and 1x2's (which are actually .75"x1.5"). The 3 doors in the front will be of a rail and stile construction with a flat center panel. I'm a fan of simple, clean construction. I'll let y'all know in a future post how it all turns out.
